Careers: build lighting systems that still work after we leave

We're a small team of controls, network, data, and field people who would rather fix a building properly than sell it another product. If that sounds like you, read on.

What to expect from interviews

Four conversations at most, all scheduled around your current job. No trick questions, no unpaid take-home projects.

  1. A reply from a person

Every applicant hears back from someone on the team, whether the answer is yes, not yet, or no.

  2. A 30-minute conversation

What you've worked on, what you want to work on, and what the role really involves, including the travel and the after-hours work.

  3. A working session

We look at a realistic problem together during the interview: a sequence of operations to critique, a network diagram, a messy data set, or a project schedule. We care how you reason, not whether you recall a code section from memory.

  4. A visit to Tupelo

Meet the team, see the bench, and ask us anything. We'll make a decision quickly after the visit and put any offer in writing.

What we offer

We'll go through the details on the first call. The basics are the same for every full-time role.

01

Health coverage and paid time off

For full-time roles, from your first month.

02

Time and budget for learning

Paid time for protocol and standards training, the standards documents themselves, and hours on the bench to learn new systems.

03

Proper tools

Calibrated meters, a laptop configured for the work, and the safety equipment fieldwork requires. You won't buy your own.

04

Travel handled

Company vehicle or mileage, and overnight costs for longer trips. Travel time counts as work time.

How we work

We’re a young company, founded in Tupelo in 2025, and we’re hiring the people who will set its habits. A few of those habits are already firm.

The people who design a system are the people who test it. Engineers go to site, and technicians are in the design reviews. Nobody hands a problem over a wall.

Everything gets written down. Sequences, test results, configuration, and decisions all go into documents a stranger could pick up. It’s how we hand buildings back to their owners, and it’s how we avoid depending on any one person’s memory, including yours.

The bench comes before the ceiling. If a device combination is new to us, it gets tested in the Lytbit Lab first. Everyone on the team spends time there, whatever their role.

We review each other’s work. Every sequence, network design, and Ledger model gets a second pair of eyes before it reaches a client. That isn’t about distrust. It’s how a small team catches what one person misses.

Field work is planned. Commissioning in occupied buildings sometimes means testing after hours or on a weekend. We schedule that in advance, and we give the time back.

Travel

Most roles are based at our office in Tupelo and travel regularly to client sites. That’s mostly day trips around North Mississippi, plus regular work in the Memphis area and North Alabama and occasional overnights elsewhere in Mississippi. The commissioning and project roles travel more; the data role travels least. Each role description gives a realistic picture, and we’ll be specific on the first call.

How to apply

Email lab@lytbit.com with the role title in the subject line, for example “Commissioning Technician”. Include:

  • a resume or a short summary of your work history;
  • a few sentences about a building system, network, or data set you fixed, or one you’d like to fix;
  • when you could start.

You don’t need a cover letter, and you don’t need to meet every requirement in a listing. If the work interests you and you can show us how you think, apply.

Lytbit is an equal opportunity employer. We consider every applicant without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. If you need an accommodation at any point in the process, tell us and we’ll arrange it.

Open roles

Controls Design EngineerFull-time · Tupelo, MS, with regional travel

Turn site surveys and owner goals into zoning, sequences of operation, specifications, and network designs that a contractor can build and our technicians can commission.

You'll be responsible for

  • Develop zoning plans, sequences of operation, and lighting control specifications for new construction and retrofits
  • Choose device combinations with the Lab and review bench results before they reach a design
  • Check designs against the energy code edition and utility program rules confirmed for each project
  • Review submittals, answer RFIs, and visit sites during construction
  • Write the Sequence Book that commissioning tests against

You'll bring

  • A degree in electrical, architectural, or lighting engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Several years designing lighting or lighting controls for commercial buildings
  • Working knowledge of the lighting control requirements in ASHRAE 90.1 or the IECC
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of DALI-2, 0-10V dimming, or wireless controls, and curiosity about the rest
  • Clear writing: contractors, technicians, and owners will all read your sequences

Commissioning TechnicianFull-time · Tupelo, MS, with regional travel

Test every sequence in the field, set trim with a calibrated meter, and leave each building with records the next technician can trust.

You'll be responsible for

  • Address, label, and verify sensors, drivers, controllers, and gateways against the device schedule
  • Run functional test scripts zone by zone and log each result as pass, fail, or adjusted
  • Set high-end trim and record measured illuminance
  • Work punch lists with installers and manufacturers until every line closes
  • Train facility teams on overrides, schedules, and alarms

You'll bring

  • Field experience with lighting controls, low-voltage systems, building automation, or electrical work
  • Comfort working on lifts and ladders, including some scheduled after-hours shifts in occupied buildings
