Lighting controls in North Mississippi and Tupelo
This is home ground. Our office and Lab are on West Main Street in Tupelo, and most of North Mississippi is within about an hour's drive: close enough to come back after the punch list, not just for it.

Where we work in North Mississippi
Lighting controls retrofits, commissioning, and monitoring from our Tupelo office for plants, schools, clinics, and offices across North Mississippi.
Field crews travel from our office at 431 West Main Street, Suite 306, Tupelo, MS.

Why we’re in Tupelo
Lytbit was founded in Tupelo in 2025, and we chose the city on purpose. It sits at the center of a manufacturing region, on the I-22 corridor between Memphis and Birmingham, and inside TVA territory. The buildings we want to work on are a short drive in every direction, and the Lab where we bench-test devices from different manufacturers is in the same office.
Getting around
Approximate drive times from our office:
| Town | Approximate drive |
|---|---|
| Pontotoc, New Albany | about 30 minutes |
| Booneville | about 40 minutes |
| Oxford, Columbus, Corinth | about an hour |
| Starkville | about an hour and a quarter |
That distance shapes how we work. A survey, a mid-project site visit, or a punch-list return takes a morning, not a trip. When a monitoring alert says a zone in Columbus has stopped dimming and the remote fix doesn’t work, a technician can be there the same day.
The buildings here
North Mississippi’s commercial building stock has a recognizable shape:
- Manufacturing plants from the 1970s to today, many of them metal buildings with high-bay lighting, serving the upholstered furniture industry and the automotive supply chain. Plenty have converted to LED; few have real controls.
- Schools and campuses, from small county districts to the universities in Oxford and Starkville, with buildings from every decade and a mix of control platforms.
- Healthcare: regional medical facilities, clinics, and outpatient centers serving a wide rural area.
- Downtowns around courthouse squares, with two- and three-story masonry buildings turned into offices, shops, and restaurants. Plaster ceilings and thick walls make wireless controls attractive.
- Community bank branches and small offices, often a dozen or more sites under one owner.
Climate, and what it does to lighting
Summers are long, hot, and humid. Roof decks in unconditioned plants and warehouses run far hotter than the floor, which matters for the high-bay sensors, drivers, and wireless nodes mounted up there. We check temperature ratings against the actual space, not the catalog’s typical conditions.
Spring and late fall bring severe storm season. Power blips and outages test whether a control system comes back in a sensible state, so we specify how every zone behaves when power is restored and test it during commissioning. We also recommend surge protection on exterior poles. Winters are mostly mild, but ice storms happen, and exterior schedules have to handle short, dark days.
Utilities and incentives
Most of North Mississippi is served by TVA local power companies: Tupelo Water & Light in the city, and municipal utilities and electric power associations elsewhere. That usually means TVA EnergyRight, which requires pre-approval before equipment is purchased and gives additional credit for networked controls. We prepare the application package and coordinate with your local power company and program staff. A few addresses in the region fall outside TVA territory, so we confirm the program from your bill.
Energy code adoption varies, and local enforcement varies with it. We confirm the applicable requirements with the authority having jurisdiction on every project.
How to start
For most buildings here, the first step is a Baseline Assessment: a site walk, a look at your utility bills, and a sample test of whatever is already in the ceiling. The fee is credited toward the project if you go ahead. If the building is a plant, our manufacturing page covers the sequences we’d start from.
FAQ
Questions we hear often
Still unsure? Write to sales@lytbit.com and a person will answer within one business day.
How quickly can you be on site in North Mississippi?
Most of the region is within about an hour of our Tupelo office, so a site visit is a matter of scheduling, not travel. Support plan response times work the same everywhere; here, a visit is rarely more than a short drive behind the remote diagnosis.
Which utility programs apply in North Mississippi?
Most of the region is served by TVA local power companies, including Tupelo Water & Light, so TVA EnergyRight is usually the program. It requires pre-approval before equipment is purchased and gives additional credit for networked controls. We prepare the application and coordinate with your local power company, and we confirm the utility from your bill, because some addresses fall outside TVA territory.
Do you take on small buildings?
Yes. A single bank branch, a clinic, or a small plant is a normal project for us. For small sites, a Baseline Assessment often shows whether a simple wireless retrofit is enough.
Can you help with a building whose controls nobody understands?
Yes, and it's often the least expensive project in the building. We sample-test the existing system, recover or rebuild its configuration, and tell you whether to re-commission or replace it. See legacy system rescue.
In North Mississippi and wondering where to start?
Tell us the town, the building type, and what's bothering you. We can usually be on site within days.
